From Brainerd, take State Highway 25 south and go 5 miles to where South Long lake can be seen on the left. The road curves to the right. Near the end of the curve a road heads directly north. At that point, go due east on a brush-lined road into a field. Follow the edge of the field to the right and then generally east over to the cemetery.

Used in connection with the St. Columba Episcopal Mission on the northeast shore of Gull Lake until the Mission was burned in 1862 during the state-wide Indian uprisings. No trace left of church or cemetery. Mission was re-established in 1868 at the newly-created White Earth Reservation. Records from the original Mission as well as from St. John's Holy Cross Episcopal Church at Crow Wing are on MHS microfilm (MN 107). Known burials - German peddler murdered at Gull Lake in 1857, Rev. E. Steele, Peake infant son, 2 of Hole-in-the-Day's Children, plus numerous others.

From Brainerd, take State Highway 371 south and go 6.9 miles to County Highway 27 (turnoff to Crow Wing State Park). Turn right (west) and go 1 mile to the Park Entrance. Turn right (north) just past the entrance and go 1/4 mile to the Chapel. Park there and proceed on foot northeast to the Boat Ramp. Follow the trail downstream along the river. The remains of the cemetery are on a high bluff overlooking the river next to the footpath (map available at park entrance).
Notes
Used from 1850 - 1873. At least 19 known burials. Burial records are on MHS microfilm MN 107. In 1868, the White Earth Reservation was formed and the Indians relocated there. In 1872, the new town of Brainerd became the county seat, and the town of Crow Wing was gradually abandoned. According to Anna Himrod (1937 WPA Project), there were three burials - "Colonel Freeman Thorpe, 1919; Mrs. Freeman Thorpe, 1922; Clark Thorpe, son, 1896. Colonel Thorpe, a Civil War veteran, was a portrait painter and had painted several portraits of Abraham Lincoln. The son died the year after his parents had moved to Lake Hubert. Location: About 80 yards north of the road that runs from Highway 371 into old Crow Wing." That road is now 80th Street. The "murdered by Indians" was never proven, as her remains were not found until found 4 years later and the 2 suspects were lynched before a trial was held (Brainerd Centennial Book, p. 71).
